National Bike Week 2024: What’s happening and how to get involved

This year’s Bike Week will run from May 11th to 19th across the country

Bike Week is an annual celebration promoting the joys of cycling. Happening this year from May 11th to 19th throughout Ireland, events and activities will be on offer for all levels, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, dusting off the saddle again or a newcomer.

With the theme “Cycling is for Everyone!” emphasising inclusivity, communities nationwide are hosting events throughout the week. Whether you represent a community group or are a member of the public that would like to celebrate cycling in your local area, everyone is welcome to take part.

People across Ireland will be attending a variety of events including group cycles, mountain biking, safe cycling training, cycle parades, greenway cycles and family-friendly activities. These events are brought to you by local authorities, sports partnerships and community groups in collaboration with TFI and funded by the Department of Transport. During Bike Week there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

How can I get involved?

You probably won’t have to travel far to join a Bike Week event, as they’re happening all across the country.

Even if you don’t own a bike or yours needs fixing, there are options available, including bike hire and maintenance workshops nationwide. So, there’s no shortage of ways to participate.

Alternatively, you might not even need your own bike, as many events offer bike rentals, ensuring plenty of options for everyone.

Highly anticipated events like family bike festivals, community rides and greenway cycles are making a return, alongside special occasions like Bike-to-Work Day, also known as Cycle on Wednesday, on May 15th, with many schools participating in cycle buses, facilitating children cycling to school.
