HE’S BARELY been in the place a wet week yet Declan Collier has been picking up awards on behalf of London City Airport, where he is running the show after leaving the Dublin Airport Authority earlier this year.

London City won the award for the best airport with under five million passengers at the eighth ACI Europe Awards, with Collier picking up the gong at a bash in Madrid recently. Cork and Shannon airports, which Collier had responsibility for last year as DAA chief executive, didn’t enter the category.

THE HEADCOUNT of former employees of Bloxham Stockbrokers, which collapsed in May, joining rival Davy rose by one this week when veteran Angus McDonnell joined the firm. McDonnell (69) was a long-time managing partner of Bloxham before handing over the reins to Pramit Ghose some years ago. Ghose also made the switch to Davy.

THE UK’s Office of Fair Trading has ordered about a dozen airlines, including Aer Lingus and Ryanair, to include debit card surcharges in the headline price of their tickets, instead of at the end of the booking process.

The change will begin to take effect from August 1st. Credit card charges aren’t covered by this decision. The OFT estimates that debit and credit card surcharging in the airlines sector costs consumers £300 million a year.
