EasyJet testing smart shoes that act as a guide

Wearable technology is coming to your feet with smart shoes by EasyJet.

The airline is developing sneakers with inbuilt vibration technology. Linking with Bluetooth to a smartphone app, instead of looking at your phone for directions, Sneakairs will guide you to your destination by vibrating under your foot.

EasyJet is already using an app, Mobile Host, which guides passengers at the airport, directing them to the gate and passing on information on gate numbers and luggage belts.

Snow globes top London airport’s confiscated list

The list of items confiscated at London City Airport (LCY) is always amusing and once again snow globes topped it.

An unidentifiable dark mass in a cabin bag turned out to be a block of cash, £40,000 and fluffy handcuffs turn up regularly.

Posh jams continue to appear second on the list with hundreds of passengers losing their Harrods’ treats.

Nutella too gets confiscated as well as chutneys and olive oils. Some poor horse lost its treat when its Horslyx was left behind in LCY.

Karhoo’s London taxi app attracts 30,000 drivers

A new taxi booking app has been launched in London – Karhoo will allow customers to compare prices from different providers including licensed black cabs and minicabs.

The app will show the number of vehicles available close by.

Thirty thousand licensed cars have already signed up to the app in the London area. Travellers will also be able to prebook and payment is made on credit or debit cards.

Cork city to stage global aviation conference

Cork city has been chosen as the venue for an international aviation conference in May 2017.

The 10th annual Airport Council International – Europe conference will be held in the city.

Hundreds of delegates will attend from airports around the world.

Cork and Dublin airports have been shortlisted in the ACI Best Airports awards to be announced on June 21st in Athens.

Dublin is shortlisted in the airports over 25 million passengers, a category it entered only this year.

Cork is shortlisted in the under five million category. Cork won the category in 2013.
