Airt Kerry school leads artistic way

If your new year’s resolution involves learning more about music, dance or art, a new residential school may be just the trick to get you out the door and on your way.

Based in the heart of the Dingle peninsula in Co Kerry, Airt sets out to provide guidance and direction from musicians, singers, dancers, artists, poets and writers to those who want to finesse their work in a creative and friendly environment along the Wild Atlantic Way.

It’s the brainchild of Cormac Begley, the concertina player, Ré band member and member of that fabled and talented west Kerry traditional music dynasty. Aside from students learning from professional artists, it’s hoped Airt’s various week-long courses will help the local economy by bringing people into the area and putting on more events.

Course tutors for Airt cover all manner of styles and disciplines including singer-songwriter Lisa O’Neill, film-maker Ben Dowden, dancer Emma O’Sullivan and master fiddler Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh. The next scheduled course will feature Begley with Ensemble Eriu co-founder and west Clare concertina player Jack Talty in March and other courses will run throughout 2016 subject to demand.
