The two composers behind the Ergodos Festival, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice, have an unusual way with words.

“This year,” says Sholdice, “the Ergodos Festival is all about optimism. The industry of men and women – their ability to make something – is an essentially positive force. Never before has there been both the necessity and opportunity to imagine again how something is done.” Hmmm.

There are just two concerts in this year's festival, which has been titled Another Generation. A five-member Ergodos Orchestra plays Bach, Cage, Simon O'Connor, Alexander Harker and Sholdice himself at the Project Arts Centre on Saturday.

And the following night a three-member orchestra team up with Ergodos Voices for a film and music presentation, The Sun Also Rises, by Schlepper-Connolly and David Tynan.

Also, in the informal setting of the Kaleidosope series at the Odessa Club, there's a performance of Steve Reich's New York Counterpoint, where, rather than the familiar presentation with one live performer and pre-recorded tape, all the clarinettists will be live.
