Band of the Day is a pretty ingenious app for those who want to remain in the musical loop. It’s a profile of a new band each day, including interviews, streaming tracks, biogs and videos. The layout is attractive, plus you can listen to bands from previous days. The acts are well-chosen killer tunes of various genres. The writing is informative and to the point. “The Postelles were raised on a diet of pure rock and roll”, it says of one band, which I guess explains how they can fit into those skinny jeans. It’s free for the first week, and then charges just over €7 a year. Like many apps it will automatically charge you until you tell it otherwise. Whether you’ll have the time or inclination to absorb 365 bands a year is up to you, but it’s a wonderful app – the best hipster friend you never had.
