As far as trips down memory lane go, Duke Nukem Forevercould be one nostalgia trip you would be glad not to take. The game sees aliens taking the Earth's women and, of course, Duke must deal with it.

In development since 1997, DNFfeels as if it's not quite done yet. It's not supposed to outdo modern first-person shooter graphics, but it's inevitable it will be compared to them – and poorly.

And the game quickly begins to irritate. On a console, the controls are awkward, and the multiplayer mode seriously lacks imagination. Also, I’m not a newcomer to Duke and I get that he’s supposed to be offensive. And sure, he still has some funny one-liners. But in the past, he just seemed funnier. At times it’s downright crass, even by previous standards. Some things are best left in the past: this game is one of them. CIARA OBRIEN
