Box-office hit

THE SOCIAL NETWORK:The director of the National Concert Hall, Simon Taylor, was in great form on Tuesday evening after a concert by the Oscar-winning film composer Dario Marianelli. The special concert was part of Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, with music performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

At a reception afterwards on the upper balcony, Taylor said he was looking forward to seeing the US jazz pianist Keith Jarrett, who was performing on Thursday.

“It’s a one-off solo concert and his first concert in Ireland in over 30 years. It sold out the day it opened for sales.”

On Tuesday evening guests listened to works carefully selected by Marianelli, including music from Ailsa and I Went Down, as well as performances of songs from The Brothers Grimm, Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina and Atonement.

Marsha van der Krabben and Hubert Kalkman, interns at the Dutch embassy, enjoyed the concert. Kalkman hopes to be a diplomat one day. “We’ll see what the future brings,” he said, diplomatically.
