Heated Hat

Though it seems the widely-held belief that you lose 30 per cent or more heat through your head has been, well, knocked on the head by researchers, many still feel disproportionately toastier with a hat on. It keeps you warmer, but imagine the extra treat if your bonnet actually heated up too? Panasonic’s Lumix range is expanding apace, with a stream of new cameras, including the much-advertised G5. The FT4 doesn’t boast interchangeable lenses like its stablemate, but makes up for that with travel-proof ruggedness.

It is water resistant to 12m and droppable from 2m. Tough outside, smart innards, with full HD video, HDMI and even GPS. In fact, it’s got a very high tech geo-tagging facility with ABC (altimeter, barometer and compass) and built-in database of places that can put a location name to your satellite co-ordinates. Panasonic Lumix FT4 RRP €420, available from good camera stores.

Korkers SnowJack

Korkers has been making waders with interchangeable soles for years. Now it's applying them to boots too, with a number of versions. SnowJack is middle of their range – a fully waterproof, Thinsulate-lined, breathable hiking-style boot – but with Korkers proprietary OmniTrax Interchangeable Sole System. This lets you swap soles without even taking off your boots. Korkers SnowJack $169.99 from korkers.com
