At the five-star Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico freebies include late check out, a mini-honeymoon cake, a bottle of sparkling wine and a romantic candlelit dinner (from €1,449 for seven nights).

The four-star Iberostar Varadero in Cuba gives honeymooners a bottle of sparkling wine, a romantic dinner and a constantly stocked free mini bar (from €1,179 per person for seven nights), while the four-star Dreams Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic gives a basket of fruit on arrival, champagne breakfast and late checkout (seven nights from €1,299).

* To celebrate the restoration and launch of Merchant’s House, a historic holiday home in Kilrush, Co Clare, guests get a bottle of prosecco on arrival.

Named after the milling merchant who first occupied it 200 years ago, its colourful occupants have included an opera singer who performed from the first floor window of the drawing room.

The three-story house has an olde-worlde vibe and sleeps five people. It is located in the centre of the town. A week costs from €250-€550, depending on the season.

Catch: Not really suitable for children from toddler age up to around six years old because of the stairs.
