Wee Binnian festival

The Wee Binnian Walking Club Festival is taking place this weekend in the Mourne and Cooley Mountains. While it is probably too late to participate in today’s walks there is still time to get in on the action tomorrow. There are four walks of various grades on the card and registration is at Killeavy Football Club off the Forkhill road near Newry. The cost is €12 and includes transport. Hill walking course

Walkabout Wicklow in conjunction with the People’s College is offering introductory hill walking courses starting on September 21st. The courses, which include two evening theory sessions and four guided walks (Saturdays and Sundays), are designed to teach beginners how to use a map and compass, cover topics such as hill walking equipment, walking safety and much more. Knockmealdowns

Guided walks of the Liam Lynch Loop and Knockballiniry Loop, Goatenbridge, Co. Tipperary will take place on Sunday, September 18th. There will be two guided walks to choose from: a moderate walk (12km) and an easy walk (6km). Hell and Back

Killruddery Estate near Bray, Co Wicklow will be the scene of the Hell and Back 10k Challenge on Sunday, October 16th. Run over dense forest and swampland with 11 major challenges, the course has been customised and tested by a former member of the elite army ranger wing. Participants can enrol individually (€39) or as a team of four (€136). The event is supporting a number of charities and you can add your own charity to the list.
