Go Kids:The weather forecast for this weekend isn't great so it's a good opportunity to plan your timetable for the biggest event of the year: the St Patrick's Day Festival. It starts on Wednesday and goes on all weekend.
The first thing to do is read Brilliant, Roddy Doyle's story which is the inspiration for Dublin's festival parade.
Dublin is this year’s Unesco City of Literature and Ireland’s leading pageant companies will interpret different chapters in their own colourful way.
The story, which is about the search for the city’s missing funny bone, can be downloaded for free on stpatricksfestival.ie or roddydoyle.com. Most children are only getting Thursday off so going to the parade – whether it’s the Dublin one or your local city or town one – is the main attraction.
World champion boxer Katie Taylor will lead the parade in Dublin. But it’s not all about the parade, two family events to plan for are the Literary Treasure Hunt next Saturday, starting at Dublin’s City Hall at 10am. The fastest to complete the trail will win and entry is free.
Next Sunday Boyzone’s Ronan Keating and Keith Duffy will be running through the streets alongside track legend Eamonn Coghlan and anyone else who wants to register for the St Patrick’s 5km Festival Road Race. It starts at the Mansion House in Dawson Street and the route takes in much of Georgian Dublin.
