This set of prehistoric musical pipes was discovered at an archaeological excavation south of Greystones, Co Wicklow.
The Bronze Age pipes, which lack finger holes, may have formed part of a multi-flute instrument, perhaps an early pipe organ.
The slender pipes, made from yew wood, were dated to 2,000 BC using AMS. Queen's prepared a tiny sample taken from the pipes and the wood was dated using an AMS system at the University of Oxford.
In future, such dating could be done using the new machine in Queen's.
