Dodgy boxes and increasing bills

Sir, – Having just paid my April broadband and TV bill, I note an increase of just over 10 per cent has been added to my bill, well in excess, in fact, three times, March’s rate of inflation of 2.9 per cent. An egregious increase, and a greater percentage increase than I can expect in my wages over the next three years in total.

It is the second time in less than six months the company in question has come looking for an increase in premium. Who can sustain that? A new customer will pay 63 per cent of my bill as an introductory rate for the very same service.

Currently, we see various media companies going mad over dodgy box use. While I don’t condone their use, additional increases such as these make me see the attraction.

Perhaps if wealthy companies focused a bit more on fair play with all of their stakeholders, not just focusing on squeezing as much as they can out of loyal customers to maximise shareholder value, the dodgy boxes wouldn’t gain so much traction in the first place. – Yours, etc,
