Sir, – During a recent visit to the beautiful city of Sydney, I was startled by a major difference between this location and our own capital.

You never hear anyone cursing there, while a stroll down most streets in Dublin will usually elicit some toe-curling invective.

Bad language appears to be intrinsic to our parlance and, while unpleasant to many of us, must seem abhorrent to our tourists. Could we possibly consider a national “no-cursing” day? – Yours, etc,
