Aidan O’Brien has seven of 18-strong field left for Epsom Derby

Market leader Wings Of Desire was among four horses supplemented for Saturday’s Investec Derby at Epsom.

A total of 18 remain in the premier Classic after Red Verdon, Cloth Of Stars and Humphrey Bogart were also added to the field at a cost of £75,000 each at the confirmation stage.

Wings Of Desire burst onto the Derby scene when winning the Dante Stakes at York, having only made his racecourse debut last month.

He will bid to give trainer John Gosden back-to-back successes after Golden Horn 12 months ago.

The Godolphin-owned Cloth Of Stars earned his stripes when winning the Group Two Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud for trainer Andre Fabre.

The Richard Hannon-trained Humphrey Bogart won the Lingfield Derby Trial while Ed Dunlop’s Red Verdon has earned his big chance by winning handicaps in tremendous fashion.

Aidan O'Brien, whose sequence of three consecutive Derby triumphs was ended last year, has seven left in the race, headed by Chester Vase scorer US Army Ranger.

Backing him up are Vase runner-up Port Douglas, Dante second Deauville, Idaho, Shogun, Beacon Rock and Bravery.

As expected, O’Brien withdrew French 2000 Guineas winner The Gurkha.

Other Irish possibles are Jim Bolger’s Moonlight Magic and the Dermot Weld-trained Harzand.

Sir Michael Stoute is double-handed with impressive Newbury maiden winner Ulysses and Lingfield Derby Trial third Across The Stars after taking out Midterm, who is currently sidelined through injury.

The form of the 2000 Guineas is represented by Massaat, who was runner-up to Galileo Gold. He will bid to give Owen Burrows his first Classic winner in his first season as a trainer.

Completing the list of entries are David Simock’s Algometer and the Karl Burke-trained Biodynamic.
