Legatissimo leads Sun Chariot contenders

David Wachman’s horse has struck gold three times at highest level already this season

Legatissimo is the headline act among 18 fillies and mares in contention for the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on October 3rd.

David Wachman’s three-year-old has struck gold three times at the highest level already this season, winning the 1000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile, the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last Saturday. Martyn Meade is leaning towards making the Sun Chariot the next stop for Irish Rookie, provided there is cut in the ground.

Having chased home Ervedya in the French 1000 Guineas back in May, just seven days after finishing fifth in the English version, the daughter of Azamour has been kept away from fast ground since finishing seventh behind the same rival in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Meade said: “Irish Rookie is good and we are looking at the Sun Chariot. It could be the ideal race for her.”
