Like many RPGs, Diablo IIII is less of a game and more of a commitment. It’s time- consuming but ultimately rewarding – if you can stick to it through the first 20 levels, which aren’t as challenging as you’d like.

The game is set 20 years after the Prime Evils were banished, but there are signs that evil is stirring. You return to New Tristram to investigate reports of a fallen star, which turns out to be an angel come to warn the world about demon lords heading their way.

It may not be the most complex plot, but it certainly gets you interested. But what really hooks you is the gameplay, which has something for newcomers to the series as well as experienced players.

You start out with a basic character, regardless of what class you opt for. New skills can be acquired quickly. If you want to customise your character to your liking and experience level, you can tinker about with the mix of skills to get one that’s just right.

While it’s easier to defeat the monsters that cross your path in the early levels, inevitably things get tougher, leading to some satisfying combat. The Hardcore mode offers an extra level of challenge.

Diablo III isn’t just about defeating monsters. There is plenty of loot to pick up and trade as you explore the world. A real-money auction house, which will allow you to buy and sell game items for cold, hard cash, has also been delayed for the time being.

One downside to the game is the fact that you need an internet connection at all times to play, even when in single player mode. This is frustrating, and limits your ability to play at times. However, it also makes multiplayer a bit easier to handle, so you can drop in and out easily and quickly.

Overall, Diablo III offers a compelling game experience that is worth pursuing.
