Greenan Farm Museums & Maze

What is it?
Greenan Farm Museums & Maze is a privately run visitor centre with two mazes, farm museums with horse-drawn machinery, antique bottles and farming tools, and nature walks through woodlands and wetlands.

Why visit?
It's an antidote to urban living within easy reach of Dublin. The two-metre- high hedge maze and gentler solstice maze with stone circles are fun for all ages, and the barn and bottle museums offer a look at farming in former times, as does the farmhouse museum, with its traditional furniture and utensils. Day-long workshops in crafts such as basketmaking and soapmaking, as well as poultrykeeping, are held from April to October.

Why now?
Greenan begins its season this long weekend, with Chase the Leprechaun through the Maze on Monday, free arts and crafts and face-painting for children on Sunday and Monday, and traditional music by Black Knott on Monday. Over the Easter weekend, there are also free egg hunts at 2pm and 4pm on Easter Sunday, and children can feed the chicks on Easter Monday at noon and 3pm.

How do I get there?
Greenan Farm is in Ballinanty, Greenan, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow. From Dublin, follow the N11 south. Take exit 16 for Wicklow and Rathnew, then take the R752 towards Rathdrum and follow signs for Greenan, which is on the left after about six kilometres. It is open this weekend and daily from March 23rd to April 7th from 10am to 6pm; on Saturday and Sundays in April and September; from Tuesday to Sunday and bank holidays in May and June, and daily in July and August.
