John Wilson: Two summer rosés from Aldi to add some sparkle to the holiday season

Wines for the Weekend: The first bottle is an organic prosecco, the second a Ventoux, from northern Provence

As the holiday season begins in earnest this week, here are two summer rosés from Aldi, one of them an organic sparkling Prosecco. Glera is the white grape used to make standard prosecco. This producer adds about 15 per cent Pinot Noir to give the wine a delicate pink colour and subtle red fruits. The second wine comes from the Ventoux region, which is in the north of Provence, home to so many of our favourite rosés.

Castellore Organic Prosecco Rosé, €13.99

Very seductive strawberry and cherry fruits with a clean, long finish. Perfect poolside sipping or to have with nibbles before dinner.

Chassaux & Fils Specially Selected Ventoux Rosé 2021, €8.99

A light, crisp rosé with refreshing redcurrant and raspberry fruits, good acidity and a lip-smacking dry finish. Drink solo or with summer salads. Cold salmon sounds good.
