Six expensive moisturisers determined to stop wrinkles

It’s expensive, but you’re paying for skincare innovations, smart combinations of ingredients and products that work. This rich, dreamy moisturiser is infused with ceramides and fatty acids and melts into skin.

Juliette Armand Skin Boosters Chronos Wrinkle Correct Cream €109

Juliette Armand is apparently the biggest-selling skincare range in Greece. It’s now available in Ireland, and I have been busy trying out the products. Interestingly it bills itself as “anti-Botox skincare”, which is nonsense, as no skincare can reverse wrinkles unless it is full of retinol. What does make sense about this cream is that it feels silky, absorbs well and immediately makes skin appear smoother. However, the price is too high.

Skincode Cellular Anti-aging Cream €44.95

I always have a few moisturisers on the go for testing. This one is getting a lot of use. It is lighter than the richer creams on this list, and will be suitable for normal/ combination and slightly dry skin. It hydrates well, works under foundation and is great for daytime use with an SPF over it.

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Divine Mask €124.50

This is not actually a moisturiser, but I use it as one because it does all your skincare layering for you. It is in effect a really rich cream and combines all the skin benefits of serum and oil without the fuss of layering. I use it all the time. It makes my dry skin feel comfortable and soft. It’s also great under foundation. It’s worth the price when you factor in the top-notch ingredients and all these advantages.

L’Oréal Age Perfect Golden Age Rosy Glow €20.99

On the most superficial level I was predisposed to love this cream because of its rose-gold packaging and pink cream. But I’m not that shallow and when I put t to the test I found it excellent. It’s targeted at the mature skin market (60 plus) but I have never let age guides stop me. It is infused with skin-loving botanicals and hydrating ingredients plus pigment particles to instantly lift and “de-grey” your complexion. It’s the least expensive of my six and one of the best. Totally worth the spend.

Aisling loves . . . Shiseido Bio Performance Glow Revival Cream €115

Shiseido has always been ahead of the pack when it comes to skincare innovation. It was the first to bring hyaluronic acid to the market in the 1980s. Other skincare companies scramble to keep up with the Japanese brand. This moisturiser is great for dry, dehydrated or mature skin and is loaded with all the good stuff. The ingredients will instantly plump up skin, making it appear firmer. If you take your skincare seriously, this is one to try.
