Two great French wines for under a tenner

A red and a white that won’t break the bank

Gérard Bertrand H de L'Hospitalet Sauvignon Blanc 2016
This week two wines from one of the leading producers of Languedoc, the largest wine region in France, and the source of many great-value wines. The former rugby player Gérard Bertrand now owns 22 estates, where he creates some excellent wines. Sauvignon Blanc is more often found in cooler climates farther north, but this is a well-made fruit-filled version that would go very nicely with seafood and chicken dishes, or simply by itself. €9.95 until the end of July from O'Briens

Gérard Bertrand La Vielle Capitelle 2015
This red wine is made from a blend of local grapes – Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, to be exact. Soft, supple and rounded, it will go perfectly with all manner of white and red meats, including a burger straight off the barbecue. €9.95 until the end of July from O'Briens
