Paintings by Guggi and Jim Fitzpatrick to feature at Dublin Simon Community charity auction

Paintings by Guggi and Jim Fitzpatrick, alongside collectables from musicians including Andrea Corr and Finbar Furey, will be sold as part of efforts to raise in the region of €60,000 to support the frontline work of Dublin Simon Community.

About 200 works from artists and musicians will feature in the online sale, hosted by Adam’s and Gormley’s. Other lots include paintings by David Booth, with photography by Conor Horgan and John Hewson. Collectables from musicians such as Caroline Corr and Chris de Burgh also feature, with estimates from €100-€7,000. The Community of Hope auction by Artists for Dublin Simon, is online from Monday, with viewing at Gormley’s Fine Art on South Frederick Street from November 22nd and bidding online at adams.ie

Elsewhere, on November 20th, Keighery’s of Waterford will conduct its final sale of the year. With more than 600 lots, highlights include an 18k white gold diamond line bracelet (€14,000-€16,000); a 2.4ct diamond solitaire ring (€6,000-€10,000); and a lovely three row diamond bracelet (€4,000-€6,000).

A Waterford Crystal Etoile chandelier, described “as new”, is listed at €6,000-€8,000, while a basket chandelier is seeking €200-€300. Danish designs include an Afromosia sofa bed with a matching armchair (€500-€800); a neat rosewood 1960s bookshelf (€120-€180); and a rare vintage teak drop-front bar cabinet on sculptured legs (€400-€600). There is also a fully labelled Roundette table, with four chairs by Hans Olsen for Frem Røjle (€2,000-€3,000).

The sale lists three Eames chairs, all fully labelled: an EA119 aluminium chair in red leather, Eames for Vitra (€400-€600); a brown leather model with soft-pad chair (€1,000-€1,500); and an ICF fully labelled Eames tall back black leather model (€500-€800).

At Ross’s Belfast rooms, 350 works by the Donegal born Derry artist and civil rights activist Sheila McClean are currently for sale online at Ross’s Belfast rooms. Eschewing a place at both St Mary’s Training College and Queens University, McClean chose to attend Belfast College of Art, where she studied alongside fellow student Basil Blackshaw under the tutorship of Charles Toogood. She became head of art at Thornhill College, and was commissioned to paint the Stations of the Cross for the Church of St Pius X in Moville.

After marrying SDLP politician Dr Raymond McClean, she became involved in gender equality and civil rights. Likened to Greta Garbo by past president of the Royal Ulster Academy, Joseph McWilliams, as her work was seldom seen but much sought after, McClean exhibited alongside Colin Davidson and Catherine McWilliams at the Basil Blackshaw and Friends show in 2000.

Marking 50 years since it was designed during his residency at the Kilkenny Design Workshops, the Design and Craft Council of Ireland celebrates Holger Strøm’s IQ light. Originally created for a Christmas display, the design evolved into a modular system and was manufactured by Kilkenny Illuminations Ltd, who sold about 20,000 lights worldwide in the 1970s. Opening this weekend at the National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny, it runs until March and is part of Irish Design Week 2023.
