Isis suicide bomb attack in Iraq claims 60 lives

Truck laden with explosives crashes into security checkpoint south of Baghdad

A suicide bomb at an Iraqi checkpoint south of Baghdad killed at least 60 people and wounded more than 70 yesterday.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack at an entrance to the city of Hilla, which involved an explosive-laden fuel tanker. It is the second deadliest this year after one on February 28th that killed 78 people in Sadr City in Baghdad, also claimed by the group.

The escalation in Islamic State bombings suggests that Iraqi government forces are being stretched thin after recent gains against it in the western and northern provinces. – (Reuters)
