Portal to another dimension

Making a show of ourselves

Letters to the Editor. Illustration: Paul Scott

Sir, – Is the news that someone has held up a picture of the Twin Towers burning (News, May 13th) on the Dublin side of the Dublin-New York live-stream portal proof that we simply cannot have nice things? – Yours, etc,

BRIAN AHERN,

Clonsilla,

Dublin 15.

A chara, – New Yorkers got a bird’s eye view of the issues we all experience on the streets of Dublin on a daily basis.

I am pretty sure it has been broadcast right across the 50 states of the US at this stage.

US citizens can see and feel the menacing atmosphere on the streets of Dublin long before they book their annual holiday.

Another issue to be addressed by the new taskforce set up last week to tackle anti-social behaviour on the streets of our capital. – Is mise,

ALAN COOKE,

Temple Bar,

Dublin 2.

Sir, – The uncouth behaviour by young adults at the New York-Dublin portal brings shame to our city.

North Earl Street is in the heart of the city centre, so I am wondering where the gardaí were that Minister for Justice Helen McEntee assured us were patrolling the streets of our city? – Yours, etc,

MARGARET TREANOR,

Sutton,

Dublin 13.

Sir, – Can anyone explain the need for a public portal when the same functionality is available on your phone? Perhaps we will soon see a large-scale 35mm camera with a length of string attached to the shutter button located in the Phoenix Park so we can take photographs of ourselves? Any chance we could get the Millennium Clock back in the Liffey too? – Yours, etc,

ULTAN Ó BROIN,

Blackrock,

Co Dublin.

Sir, – The report that Dublin City Council is making technical adjustments to counter antisocial behaviour makes for depressing reading.

If the “eyes are the window to the soul” then the portal is an eye to a Dublin that has lost all sense of civic behaviour. – Yours, etc,

MIKE MORAN,

Dublin 3.
