Two wines from SuperValu this week, both under the Sophie Valrose label. There is also a rosé, priced at €10, that is well worth checking out. The back label tells me that Sophie Valrose was a legendary viticultural worker who stood up for herself and her female colleagues. This brand is named in her honour.
Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Coteaux de Béziers
12.5% abv, €12 from SuperValu
Floral aromas with fresh grapefruit and green fruits, finishing dry. Like the pinot noir below, this would make a great summery al fresco wine. Try it with lighter salads, creamy goat’s cheese or prawns.
Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose Pinot Noir 2022, Pays d’Oc
13% abv, €12 from SuperValu
Medium-bodied with smooth, ripe cherry fruits and an easy finish. Perfect summer drinking with or without food. Try it with cold meats, pâtés, cheese and crusty bread. This offers great value for money.
