What’s on offer?

Bill Chawke was one of the many who got into the pizza business when we all found ourselves with nowhere to go in 2020. By May 15th that year, he and his team had repurposed two shipping containers, parked them outside the front of The Goat Bar in Goatstown, fired up his shiny new Stefano Ferrara handmade ovens, and started serving wood-fired pizzas.

In June the following year, he opened the doors of their second location at The Old Orchard Inn in Rathfarnham and in October 2023, opened their first bricks-and-mortar outlet in Donnybrook.

The pizza dough, made from 0.0 Italian flour, is fermented over two to three days and the toppings, which change regularly, feature Irish produce, with mozzarella from Toons Bridge and vegetables from Cullen’s Farm in Wexford. The pizzas come in two sizes, 9.5″ and 12.5″.

They recently launched gluten-free pizza bases in their Donnybrook location. Buffalo and BBQ chicken wings are also available on the menu.

What did we order?

The 12.5″ G.O.A.T., the Spicy Nduja and the Italian Stallion.

How was the service?

I ordered in person at the Goatstown Fired Up. It is in a separate unit, beside the indoor bar where you can watch sport on a giant screen while you wait. The pizzas are ready for pick-up when your buzzer goes off, and you can either eat them in the bar or take away.

Fired Up's gluten-free base is a real bonus for people with dietary requirements.

Was the food nice?

The pizzas were good, with plenty of leoparding on the base. For my taste, I would have liked just a tad more goat’s cheese on the G.O.A.T. as the cheese used, Five Mile Town, is quite mild. Caramelised onions and sun-dried tomatoes bring a touch of sweetness. The Spicy Nduja had the eponymous meat crumbled on top of the San Marzano tomato sauce with Toons Bridge mozzarella. The Italian Stallion was our favourite, with a good punch of flavour from the Italian sausage.

What about the packaging?

Standard pizza boxes are used, which are recyclable when clean.

What did it cost?

€51 for dinner for three people: the 12.5″ G.O.A.T., €16.50; the spicy nduja, €17.50; and the Italian stallion, €17.

Where does it deliver?

There are three locations, Goatstown, Donnybrook and Rathfarnham. Operating hours vary based on the location, so check their website. Deliveroo operates within a 5km radius of each location.

Would I order it again?

I’d be more likely to sit in and catch the sport on the big screen rather than order it for delivery. The gluten-free base is a real bonus for people with dietary requirements.
