Ballymaloe finds recipe for success as profits rise to €2.5m

Profits at Darina Allen-founded cookery school have jumped 68 per cent since 2010

Ballymaloe Cookery School in Co Cork enjoyed further success in 2015 with accumulated profits up €140,609 on the previous year.

Abridged accounts recently lodged at the Companies Registration Office show the business, founded by Darina Allen, has recorded accumulated profits that have jumped by 68 per cent since 2010.

The cookery school first opened its doors in 1983 and has been teaching students from across the world ever since.

Past pupils include celebrity chefs such as Catherine Fulvio, Lilly Higgins and Clodagh McKenna.

For the 12 months ending August 2015, Ballymaloe Cookery School Limited reported accumulated profits that increased to €2.58 million from €2.43 million a year earlier.

The school, which employs 49 people, saw staff costs rise by 12 per cent to €1.23 million from €1.09 million. Directors’ remuneration increased from €162,765 to €175,481.
