Celeb favourite The Standard to open first hotel in Ireland

US hotel group Standard Hotels has chosen Dublin Arch, located on Dublin's northside, as the location for its first hotel in Ireland.

The chain is known for its unique design and central city locations and often, the celebrity clientele that frequent the hotels. The group has hotels in a number of cities including one near the High Line in New York city, where Madonna filmed a music video, London and Miami, with openings in Ibiza, Lisbon, Brussels and Milan planned for the year ahead.

The Dublin hotel, which is expected to open in 2025, will have 200 rooms.

Amber Asher, chief executive of Standard International, said that Dublin is a "fitting destination" for its brand.

“The city has emerged into an incredibly vibrant technology and commercial hub, with an enormous amount to offer from historical, cultural, musical and culinary points of view. We are excited to partner with Ballymore to develop a new home for Dublin’s creative community and a destination for locals and visitors alike,” she said.

The Dublin outpost of The Standard is expected to open in 2025, and while the group has no plans currently for another hotel in Ireland, Ms Asher doesn’t rule out subsequent openings.

“We are always looking for opportunities to extend The Standard experience to new audiences and destinations, and Ireland has much to offer,” she said.

New quarter

Dublin Arch, formerly known as the Connolly Quarter, is being developed by Irish group Ballymore as a mixed-use business and residential development. Located adjacent to Connolly Station and bounded by Sheriff St Lower, Commons St and Oriel St, it extends to about 111,000sq m and will include homes, restaurants, community clubs, artists’ studios and office space, as well as Ireland’s first Standard Hotel.

Upon completion, it’s expected that Dublin Arch will be home to more than 5,000 people, and the project will create more than 1,000 jobs during the five years of construction.
