Enterprise Ireland has confirmed that 145 jobs announced by Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Co Galway today were first publicised by the company involved two years ago.

The 145 posts in wind turbine manufacture outlined by Mr Kenny in Athenry, Co Galway, this morning comprise part of an expansion package of up to 250 posts announced by C&F Tooling in May, 2009.

The C&F Manufacturing group, which employs over 1100 people worldwide,
including 500 people in Athenry and Mullingar, has created a subsidiary, C&F Green Energy.

It intends to create 145 posts over the next three years, and recruitment is now underway.

The subsidiary aims to manufacture a range of new small wind turbines, in development over the past two years, which range from 6 kilowatt (kw) to 50kw and are designed to provide wind power on farms, in factories, and individual residential dwellings. The small turbines are also equipped to export any surplus electricity back to the local grid.

Mr Kenny paid tribute to the "initiative and creativity" of a "wholly owned Irish company" like C&F Manufacturing.
