Medical technology company BD is creating 100 jobs at its Drogheda site, following a €62 million investment.

About half the positions have already been filled, with remaining jobs expected to be filled by 2023. Among the roles on offer are engineering, production, machine operations, logistics, management and administration.

The Drogheda operation currently employs around 240 staff. "Many are the second generation of family members joining the company. We see this expansion as a commitment to the local economy in Drogheda and surrounding areas," said Liam Dillon, director of the Drogheda site for BD.

The news came as the company officially opened its new 30,000 sq ft production facility.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar welcomed the news, saying the investment was a boost for the local community.

“The fact that half of the posts have already been filled is a testament to the rich talent pool that is available in Drogheda,” he said.

The investment is being supported by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment through IDA Ireland.

CEO of IDA Ireland Martin Shanahan said the investment was welcome news for the North East region. "BD is a significant employer across Ireland where it has four sites, including here in Drogheda where it has been in operation for almost 60 years," he said. "Today's announcement exemplifies IDA Ireland's continued commitment to winning jobs and investment in regional locations."
