Pfizer staff fear Newbridge job cuts

Staff at Pfizer’s Newbridge plant have been called to a meeting this morning, according to local radio reports.

Local station Kfm was reporting last night that staff at the plant feared that job losses of between 100 and 150 would be announced at the meeting scheduled for 8:30am, according to the station.

Pfizer was not commenting last night, although the station said the company had confirmed to it that it had called a meeting with staff.

Newbridge is just coming to the end of a previous redundancy programme that saw it shed over a quarter of its staff.

Back in May 2010 the company announced 275 job cuts at the plant alongside news of the closure of three other Irish plants. The bulk of the redundancies in Newbridge took place this year, with the company understood to employ around 775 in the town at present.

Pfizer’s solid-dose pharmaceuticals manufacturing facility is one of the largest employers in the town, and has been open since 1992.
