THE LAW Society will ask the High Court later this month to impose unprecedented fines of some €2 million against missing solicitor Michael Lynn and to strike him off the roll of solicitors.

The report of the society's solicitors disciplinary tribunal, recommending the €2 million fine and strike off, has been presented to the president of the High Court, Mr Justice Richard Johnson, who will be asked at a hearing on May 23rd to implement the recommendations. He will also be asked to refer papers in the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The matter was before Mr Justice Johnson yesterday who agreed to a request from Shane Murphy SC, for the society, to list it for hearing on May 23rd. The judge also continued orders freezing Mr Lynn's accounts and suspending his practising certificate.

The court also adjourned to May 23rd separate proceedings involving solicitor Thomas Byrne, whose practice at Walkinstown Road, Dublin, has been closed by the Law Society.

The court also dealt with the case of another solicitor, whose name can not be disclosed by court order, who was alleged by the Law Society to have a deficit of some €1 million in his client account.
