It’s been around since 1993, which makes Marketer of the Year one of the longer running competitions.

Last year’s award went to Peter McKenna for driving the GAA and Croke Park brands forward.

He’ll have had a busy year since picking up his award, what with Garthgate and the loud murmurings last month about American football taking over the stadium when there was a big GAA replay to be played.

The competition is organised by Michael Cullen of marketing.ie and this year's judging panel includes Dr Damien McLoughlin, professor of marketing, UCD Smurfit Business School, who again sits in as chair with Tom Kinsella, group marketing director, AIB; Barry Dooley, chief executive, Association of Advertisers in Ireland (AAI); Sharon Walsh, marketing director, Heineken Ireland; and Pat Kiely, commercial director, TV3.
