Comedy meets computers in ‘Funny as Tech’ podcast

This new New York-based podcast is a mixture of deep thoughts and belly laughs as writer and technology ethicist David Ryan Polgar shoots the breeze with comedian Joe Leonardo who is a performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (comedy nerds will be impressed).

The theme of the show is roughly futurology so it naturally leans towards dystopian/utopian visions of our technological future. The first episode sees them cover topics including our digital selves and why we construct online personas that don’t reflect real life but rather an edited, “best of” compilation. This led to an interesting discussion on how people refer to their husbands online.

Saccharine statements

Data shows that they tend to post saccharine statements on Facebook about how their husband is "the best ever", "so sweet". Meanwhile, on Google, where no one can see what you type, autocomplete finds "my husband is" frequently ends in "is a jerk" or "is annoying".

So there is plenty of quirky funny material for this live tech comedy podcast to cover. My only quibble is the sound quality isn’t the best but I’ll be tuning in again for the content.
