Aer Lingus reports increased passenger numbers for May

Transatlantic traffic rose 10.9 per cent to 143,000 between May 2014 and last month

Passenger numbers at Aer Lingus rose last month, with transatlantic traffic up 10.9 per cent.

The company said total passengers numbers for the month, including Aer Lingus Regional flights, rose 1.5 per cent to 1,062,000, compared with 1,046,000 a year earlier.

Short haul passengers increased 2.3 per cent from 795,000 in May 2014 to 813,000 last month, and the number of transatlantic travellers rose 10.9 per cent to 143,000 over the same period.

Aer Lingus mainline traffic was up 3.5 per cent to 956,000.

Passenger load factor, a measure of how full the aircraft are, was up 1.7 percentage points to 80.4 per cent in the month.

The short load factor increased 2.6 percentage points to 77.2 per cent, while the long haul load factor was the same as in May 2014 at 84.5 per cent.
