A flight between Paris and North Carolina had to be diverted to Dublin Airport this afternoon after a passenger prematurely entered labour.

American Airlines flight AA787 was travelling along the west coast of Scotland when a medical emergency was declared, and the journey had to be re-routed to Dublin where the plane touched down at 1.30pm.

It is believed that a doctor was on board the aircraft, which was met by emergency services upon its arrival at Dublin Airport.

A spokeswoman for the Dublin Airport Authority confirmed that a woman was transferred to the Rotunda maternity hospital, but there is no update on her current condition.
