Accountant suspended and ordered to pay €7,000

A Galway accountant has had his membership of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) suspended for two years and been fined almost €7,000.

Mr Paul Glynn of Roscam in Galway city had his membership removed for a number of reasons including not holding a certificate to practice.

The ACCA disciplinary committee said that Mr Glynn failed to co-operate fully with the investigation.

The committee also ordered that Mr Glynn be excluded from membership of ACCA with immediate effect for at least two years.

Mr Glynn was also ordered to pay costs of €6,939, but the ACCA noted this may be the subject of an appeal.

The ACCA found that the Galway accountant had acted in a way that was “dishonest” and “contrary to the fundamental principle of integrity”.

The Interim Order Committee of the ACCA first considered suspending Mr Glynn on August 7th of last year on the basis that it was necessary to do so “in order to protect the public”.
