Man arrested following seizure of drugs, fake firearm and cash at house in Cork

About €210,000 worth of cocaine, €10,000 worth of cannabis and €3,100 in cash found at property on Evergreen Road

Gardaí are questioning a 36-year-old man about the seizure of €220,000 worth of drugs, an imitation firearm and a small quantity of cash following a raid on a house in Cork on Thursday night.

Detectives searched a house in the Evergreen Road area of the city around 9pm on Thursday night and found €210,000 worth of cocaine and €10,000 worth of cannabis and €3,100 in cash.

Gardaí also recovered an imitation firearm in the search conducted as part of Operation Tara which is a national operation aimed at disrupting, dismantling and prosecuting drug trafficking networks.

The man was arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996 which allows gardaí hold suspects for up to seven days for questioning about the seizure.

The man is being questioned at the Bridewell Garda station while the drugs have been sent to the Forensic Science Ireland laboratory in Dublin to confirm their purity and estimated street value.
