With Nike poised to release a training programme aimed at Kinect users, the competition is about to step up. Adidas already has the right links with its Micoach fitness platform, and now it has brought it to the games console so you can work out in the comfort (and privacy) of your own home. The concept is simple: a personal training programme tailored to your needs, with real-time feedback. The strength of the programme is in its flexibility. Although you can train for a specific sport, it can be customised according to your strengths and weaknesses. You can do masterclasses with well-known sporting names across a range of sports, including Brazilian footballer Kaká and Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic.
If you don’t want to train for a specific sport, you can always try the more generic training, which can be male- or female-focused. It certainly has variety – there are more than 400 exercises available. Each is shown clearly by the on-screen trainer. There were one or two hitches with controlling the interface, but on the whole, Kinect behaved itself. This is a sports game that should have broad appeal.
