16 cert, Namco Bandai, PS Vita **
In about four year’s time, things are going to get a bit hairy. According to the plot of Earth Defense 2017, that’s when aliens and their gigantic bug-like sidekicks will try to overrun the planet, and you will have to keep them out. Originally released for the Xbox 360 in 2007, the latest version has made its way on to the PS Vita. It still feels like the original, which is both good and bad. While it keeps the same sense of fun, it also looks a bit too much like a six year old game. The advances in graphics and game-physics since have been largely overlooked. While this may be exactly what they were going for, little things like tightening up the controls would have been welcomed. Still, it provides all the good elements – hordes of enemies relentlessly bearing down on you, weapons to pick them off with. If you want something that’s fun and easy to pick up, it’s not a bad option.
