In a recent interview, David Guetta talked a lot about how Listen was his song-based album.
While previous sets like Nothing But the Beat and One Love were about the French DJ and producer making tracks which kicked ass on both pop radio and dancefloors, Guetta himself obviously felt the time was right for some changes and reinvention.
For the most part, though, Listen is a plodder rather than a thriller, a run of tracks which sound half-cooked and unfinished rather than bursting with vim and vigour.
Dangerous is probably the pick of the bunch, a track which builds into a strong groove with vocal panache on top from Sam Martin.
But the other tracks, be it the anodyne Goodbye Friend with The Script or the listless What I Did For Love with Emeli Sande, sound like all in- volved are simply going through the motions.
It may need a clatter of remixes to make anyone listen.
