Who would have thought anybody would be sussed enough to check out the back catalogue of Prefab Sprout, a popular UK 1980s band? It seems the folks in Toronto know their stuff and where to access it. That's the good news; the not-so good news is that Diana (a trio made up of Carmen Elle, Kiernan Adams and Joseph Shanason of Destroyer fame) have also been influenced by the ooziest parts of Roxy Music, the smoothest shades of Sade, and the indisputable MOR elements of Gerry Rafferty's Classic Gold radio hit Baker Street. We love the fact that contemporary bands promulgate the "let's enjoy guilty pleasures – minus the guilt" aesthetic, but a bit more grit under Diana's fingernails and a lot less soft-focus noodling really wouldn't have gone amiss. You like deja vu with a hint of chillwave (on the admittedly superb Curtains)? It's here. Again. touchdiana.tumblr.com
