They only released their first demo in March 2014, but the worldwide buzz around Madrid’s Hinds has been extraordinary.
These four young women have charisma to spare and little concern for audio fidelity (or musical chops) than their heroes Black Lips. The indie world is at their feet.
Whether you fall under their spell will depend on your affection for girl-group garage- pop so lo-fi it sounds like it’s been recorded in a biscuit tin.
The sheer amateurishness is clearly a large part of the appeal, and Hinds are not short of energy or charm.
San Diego is full of stomp and swagger, the scratchy Bamboo hints at The Shangri- Las, and Warts is a no-fi nursery rhyme whose chorus bursts through like summer sun.
Hinds were clearly made for parties, not headphones – they’re probably best enjoyed live.
