Another musician straddling rock music (nominally speaking) and movie soundtrack? Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood is something of an old (and dab) hand at this sort of thing and once again he teams up with director Paul Thomas Anderson (whose There Will be Blood and The Master he also scored) to provide music that (sometimes simultaneously) rattles the nerve endings and applies Tiger Balm to the senses.
It is of benefit to the listener that the soundtrack album is enhanced by several additions that mix the peculiar with the beguiling.
There's a Radiohead track (Spooks, performed by Greenwood and former Supergrass members Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey), an old Neil Young song (Journey Through the Past) and spoken word from Joanna Newsom. All in all, we look forward to the complete audio-visual experience.
