Listen now: new album 7 by Seal

On Friday, Seal releases his first studio album in four years, here’s a sneak listen to 7

Set your speakers to smoulder – Seal has a new album out on November 6th, and we’ve got an exclusive stream for you all this week. Seal’s latest, 7, concerns - well here’s the man himself to explain it in his trademark seductive tones: “The album concerns the most sung about, most talked about, and most documented emotion — love. I tried to capture all of the wonderfully different dynamics of love, whether it’s the anger, the acceptance, the bliss, the sadness, the elation, or the recklessness. It’s this emotion and the ways it makes us feel. It’s about the extreme joy and the extreme regret as well as all of the crazy things love makes us do.”

For this one, Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel has long-time collaborator, producer Trevor Horn, on board. Horn worked on Seal's first two albums, which featured the global hits Crazy and the Grammy Award-winning Kiss from a Rose. Speaking to The Irish Times last month, Seal said: "Trevor and I are very close, and we've both in recent years had a lot of events happen. I think that the album, from a lyrical standpoint alone, is a reflection of both of us."

Since his last album, Seal has worked as a judge on the Australian version of The Voice, in 2012 and 2013, a job he treated with typical intensity. “I had this thing that I did during the blind auditions when I first addressed [the contestants],” he said. “I would hand out a piece of paper to each of them. Then I asked each of them, ‘Why are you here?’ Only two people gave me the answer I was looking for. When I opened up the piece of paper, I had written on the inside, ‘There can be nothing else.’ ” So does his latest album make you feel like you’ve been kissed by a rose?
