George Evelyn digs a very certain kind of moodscaping groove. Since the 1990s, the Leeds producer/band leader/DJ has been the go-to chap for downtempo, slo-mo music that is chilled, soulful and a little funky at the edges. It's been five years since Evelyn's last album, but Feelin' Good could slouch easily alongside anything he's previously put his name to. It's music for the sunset hours and beyond, when the heat lingers and the sound begin to mellow in response. This is Evelyn's manor, a place where wobbly beats, sandy funk, orchestral rapture, dubby bass and subtle brass cast a spell and the spinetingling likes of So Here We Are provoke happy sighs. But Evelyn can also work the dancefloor freak scene as well, making Now Is the Time a skanking, rocksteady monster, and infusing Be, I Do with old-school reggae lilts and riffs. An album to remind you what summer was all about. nightmaresonwax.com
