"I'm done fretting about the muse, done fretting about What I Have To Say. Enough. Writers write." So Milwaukee-based singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey told his Kickstarter community as he drummed up some cash to carry this latest album – "best thing I've made" – to a wider audience. Mulvey may be right. It's hard to believe he has written or recorded a better track than the lilting loneliness of Where Did You Go, the vocals shared with Anita Suhanin and the sense of the forlorn created by guitarist and producer Chuck Prophet. Mulvey, who plays six Irish dates in March, is in the same resilient songwriter tradition as the likes of Steve Forbert, honesty and heart expressed cleanly and concisely. He can go overboard (If You Shoot at the King You Must Kill Him), but compensates with Lies You Forgot You Told and Remember the Milkman. Impressive. petermulvey.com
