The mosh pit-friendly nature of these Californians' rage against the machine, and their association with the Odd Future crew, have taken them beyond the usual hardcore circles. Trash Talk's latest album allows a few concessions to their newly expanded social network – hip-hop producer Alchemist turns a few tricks, and there's also room here for appearances from King Krule and Ratking. Yet it's the band's own intense, punchy, ceaseless hardcore riffs that dominate the proceedings. The Hole, Jigsaw and especially the searing Locked in Skin are whiplash examples of Trash Talk's modus operandi. Played at fast-forward, breakneck speed, these tracks are lean and mean, with compelling riffs and tortured, occasionally powerful angst from frontman Lee Spielman. You get the strong sense that Trash Talk are on the verge of doing something significant. And we don't mean writing a three-minute tune. trashtalkhc.com
