There are curveballs and then there is Love and Respect. The song, on When Saints Go Machine's new album, features Atlanta rapper Killer Mike and it's like nothing the Copenhagen band have done before – and, as is quickly established, nothing like the rest of the album either. As Infinity Pool progresses, When Saints Go Machine retreat into their electro shell and produce a run of dark, intense, synthetic, intricate sounds. There's much to admire in how they work up the layers of synth and dense ambience on each track, but there's little to really hook you in. Apart from the engaging Infinity Killer and the psychedelic headrush of System of Unlimited Love, When Saints Go Machine seem more interested in introverted fare than in connecting with the listener. whensaintsgomachine.com
